The Flock

The Flock was established in 1980 with a Newark ewe purchased from Tom Redman, in lamb to his noted French ram Hors d’Oeuvre.  The foundation of the Miserden Flock, this ewe, Tulip, produced twin ewe lambs all through her life, apart from one year when she produced one of each sex.  She was joined in 1982 by four gimmers from the dispersal of small flock based on Annan and Midhill bloodlines.

Subsequent additions included a Sportsman’s ewe, a former champion at Chelford, and two Notgrove ewes with old French bloodlines.

Introducing our most recent addition to the stock rams, Cambwell Dreadnought, purchased at the English National at Worcester 2020.

The Female Flock has been closed for some years now, allowing us to retain our top class health status.  The flock is MV accredited, EAE Accredited and Scrapie Monitored (negligible risk, being scrapie free for 7 yrs).

Miserden Orient Express

Carcase Quality has been a dominant factor in the choice of sires, with influential rams such as Newark Liffy, a son of Midhill Jacobite, Turin Ogle and later Lindridge Wizard.  In 2004 we bred Miserden Kracker who encompassed all the qualities we wish to see in a Texel Sheep.  In 2005 Kracker was Breed Champion at Three Counties Show, 3rd in the recorded class at the Royal Show and 1st prize Shearling Ram at the PRT/Eblex Open day in Hampshire.  The following year he won the Senior Ram class at the Bath and West and was 2nd prize at the Royal Welsh.  One of his sons, Miserden Orient Express won both the Signet Recorded class at The Royal Show as a lamb and was 2nd in the class as a shearling.  Females descended from these bloodlines are still well noted in the flock.  We have produced both Male and Female Supreme Champions at the Builth NSA ram sale and are consistently placed at major shows.

More recent influences on the flock have been Meon Down Rob Roy, Index 391, a tremendously well muscled son of Castlecairn Phoenix out of a Peacehay ewe and Cowal Sundancer by Kelso Pavarotti.  In 2013 we purchased Cowal Unstoppable, by Tullylagan Tonka out of a Muresk ewe and he has produced some really good, well muscled lambs.  We also purchased Ettrick Under Par, who has superb growth rate. We used semen from LlyfniUsain Bolt and Teiglum Utah, both of which have left us some excellent lambs, and Miserden Tchaikovsky, a very strong homebred son of Cowal Sundancer.  Shearlings from these matings will be for sale later in 2015 when their Basco details may also be seen.
